About This School

The school opened in the fall of 2005 and received Interim Accreditation from Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the spring of 2006.  Self-study is integral to the school, so the staff chose to apply for full accreditation a year earlier rather than the length of the Interim Accreditation (Spring 2008).  By doing this, the school will be eligible to be listed with community, state colleges and universities, making enrollment easier for our graduates.  In the spring of 2007, the Rio Linda School District Board of Education approved our charter until spring 2012.

School Description and Mission Statement

This section provides information about the school’s goals and programs.

Pacific Charter Institute, a non-profit organization of charter school leaders in the Sacramento area, founded Heritage Peak Charter School in February 2005.  Heritage Peak Charter School opened in September of 2005 sponsored by Rio Linda Union School District.  There were no students in July 2005 and over 500 students in grades K-12 by the following June 2006.  Heritage Peak serves all interested students requiring individualized instruction, personalized lessons and state of the art tools and instruments within the independent study pedagogy who reside primarily in the Sacramento, Stockton, Vacaville and Delta communities.  We welcome students from the counties of Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Amador, El Dorado, Contra Costa, Placer, and Yuba-Sutter.  Heritage Peak Charter School serves 556 students grades K-12 with 46% living in poverty.

Our mission is:

“Heritage Peak Charter School empowers students to take charge of their education by connecting their individual needs and interests to a rigorous learning plan, creating responsible citizens, critical problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.”

VIII. Student Performance

California Standards Tests

The California Standards Tests (CSTs) show how well students are doing in relation to the state content standards. The CSTs include English-language arts and mathematics in grades 2 through 11; science in grades 5, 8, 9, 10, and 11; and history-social science in grades 8, 9, 10, and 11. Student scores are reported as performance levels. Detailed information regarding CST results for each grade and performance level, including the percent of students not tested, can be found at the CDE Web site at http://star.cde.ca.gov. Note: Scores are not shown when the number of students tested is 10 or less, either because the number of students in this category is too small for statistical accuracy, or to protect student privacy.

The norm-referenced test (NRT), currently the California Achievement Test, Sixth Edition (CAT/6), shows how well students are doing compared to students nationally in reading, language, spelling, and mathematics in grades 3 and 7 only. The results are reported as the percent of tested students scoring at or above the national average (the 50th percentile). Detailed information regarding NRT results for each grade level can be found at the CDE Web site at http://star.cde.ca.gov/. Note: Scores are not shown when the number of students tested is 10 or less, either because the number of students in this category is too small for statistical accuracy, or to protect student privacy.
